Not in the Clouds

God is not in the clouds beckoning us to draw near,
But those clouds reflect His glory and remind us that He’s here;
God is not in the mighty waves that lap upon the shore,
He made those to remind us predictability is not a bore;

God is not all around us, in everything we see,
But He authored every hair and blade including you and me.

All nature sings a song with evidence so clear,
Reminding us about His LOVE and that His LOVE is near;

God is now pursuing every human heart and mind,
Whispering in unique ways, which are not hard to find;
“I see you and I know you and I want to call you friend,”
I cannot make you love Me, it’s your choice in the end.

Our lives are but an echo of the Father’s endless LOVE,
Friendship through obedience fits humans like a glove;

There IS someone intent to steal, to kill and to destroy,
Every good and perfect gift the Father has employed;
His strategy is simple, for that’s all he’s ever been,
He must only plant a seed of doubt for his malintent to win;

Gaze upon the clouds and shore and remember God is near,
Invite Him to be with you, and make His presence real;
He is not somewhere far away, you need not coax or bribe,
A simple whisper from your heart and your spirit comes alive.

I went to bed listening to the A. W. Tozer book “The Pursuit of God,” and I woke up with the line “God is not in the clouds, beckoning us to draw near.” As usual, when I wake with a line repeating in my mind, I sat down to write.

I’ve been hearing a lot recently about the term “pantheism.”  So I don’t completely botch the concept or add my on interpretation to the meaning, I will share the definition directly from the Oxford dictionary:

Pantheism = a doctrine which identifies God with the universe, or regards the universe as a manifestation of God. Worship that admits or tolerates all gods.

Manifestation = an event, action or object that clearly shows or embodies something, especially a theory or an abstract idea.

I believe 100% that God created all things and without Him no thing can live.  I believe He is the author and sustainer of all of life, so in a sense, He IS IN all things.  He is breathing all things with life to life.  I believe that everything He created is a manifestation of His nature.  I believe that everything He created is clear evidence that He exists and that He is God. I believe that all things He created point to His character in some way.

“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and on the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.”
Colossians 1:16

“All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
John 1:3

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”
Romans 1:20

“The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork.”
Psalm 19:1

God created all things. That does not mean that all things God created ARE God.

“Hear, O Israel; The LORD our God, the LORD is one!”
Deuteronomy 6:4

“Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts; “I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.”
Isaiah 44:6

“I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no God besides Me.  I will gird you, though you have not known Me.”
Isaiah 45:5

“Yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things and we for Him; and one LORD Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we live.”
1 Corinthians 8:6

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”
1 Timothy 2:5
