What I Ask

Baby Girl,

Get up.

If you want to hear what I’m saying, when I speak, get up and write.

If you want to go where I’m going, move your feet in the direction you hear Me say to move.

Far too many of My children, like you, choose comfort over obedience; natural wisdom over divine wisdom; sleep over rest.

Tell Me what your client’s friend said.

It wasn’t JUST what she said that made such an impact on me. It was that what she said, WORD FOR WORD, echoed what You had told me just a couple days before. You said to me, “What I ask of you is simple when you simply obey. I allowed you to pour your soul out with the first pastor you visited. You were encouraged. Now tuck your soul away and obey.” Then she sent me a text…

Don’t just repeat that line, share her whole text.

Good afternoon, handmaiden of the Lord God Almighty.
My response to your Wednesday and Thursday texts:
Is the good Lord good or is He good?!

This sounds like God Almighty talking to me:
“What I ask of you is simple when you simply obey. Now tuck your soul away and obey.”

1 John 5:3-4 AMP

“For the [true] love of God is this: that we habitually keep His commandments and remain focused on His precepts. And His commandments and His precepts are not difficult [to obey]. [4] For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God].”

Donna, I’ll have to say, and I’m sure you agree - His way is certainly more simple, and will take far less time.

“But as for me, I trust [confidently] in You and Your greatness, O LORD; I said, You are my God. My times are in Your hands.”

Psalm 31:14-15a AMP

“The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the LORD, And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].”

Psalm 37:23 AMP

“March on, my soul, with might.” Judges 5:21 ESV

“O my soul, march on with strength.” Judges 5:21 NASB

“March on with courage, my soul.” Judges 5:21 NLT

I was misquoting what You said to me. I remembered it, “Obedience is simple when you simply obey.”

What’s the difference between how you’ve been remembering it and what I actually said?

You said, “What I ask of you…”

What I ask of YOU, Little One. You had a prayer partner reach out while you were delivering books and talk to you about the letters. What did she say?

She said, “Reading your letters is convicting me. He asked you to delete a bunch of the contacts in your phone and you did it. He asked you to get rid of your jewelry… and I’ve been really struggling with that. I don’t know if I could do it. I’ve been asking Him, ‘Do you want me to get rid of my jewelry?’”

What did you say to her?

Did HE tell YOU to get rid of your jewelry? That’s what He told ME to do and He had very specific reasons why He had me do what He had me do. He KNEW what was in my heart and He knows where He is taking me in ministry, and He KNOWS that I can’t go with my WHOLE heart where He is taking me if I take those things that I previously let define me with me. If He didn’t tell YOU to get rid of YOUR jewelry, then DON’T DO IT.

She said that reading the letters just has her asking herself if she would be willing.

THAT, Little One, is why you are sharing.

I had this heaviness in my chest during that part of our conversation because I know that there are many things You have asked of me specifically because of where You’re taking me that You probably have no intention of asking other people to do. I don’t want to have some “cult” following where people read these letters and start applying what You’ve said to me to their lives like I’m saying, “THE LORD SAYS WOMEN ARE NEVER TO WEAR JEWELRY,” because I don’t think that’s true. Some of the things You’ve asked of me I think would be irresponsible for people to universally apply to their lives.

So, remind Me again - what was the difference between what I said to you and to you through your client’s friend and how you’ve been repeating it?

I’ve been saying, “Obedience is simple when you simply obey.” You said, “What I ask of you is simple when you simply obey.”

Teach people to become sensitive to how I lead in THEIR lives. I will ask things of them, just as I have asked things of you. I have asked you to let go of many things because they were distracting you. Those things which are a distraction to you might not be a source of distraction to someone else.

What is the verse that just came to mind?

Romans chapter 14 starting in verse 1:

Receive the one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

Stop there. Have I ever told you not to drink alcohol?

No.

Why?

Probably because I think it tastes like nail polish remover, so I’m not tempted to drink it.

Do you think people should be allowed to drink wine?

You are God and You turned water into wine. I don’t see anywhere in the Bible that forbids drinking wine, it just says don’t become drunk with wine.

Do you think people should be allowed to drink wine?

I think some people get themselves in trouble with it, so I wonder why bother with it at all if you don’t know if you are one of those people who are going to end up having trouble with it.

“One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the LORD and he who does not observe the day, to the LORD he does not observe it.”

LORD, I have friends who INSIST that Saturday is the Sabbath and talk about how it was the Catholic church who changed the day Sabbath is observed to Sunday instead of Saturday. They say it is a big deal and that if you’re not honoring Sabbath on Saturday then you are not following God’s instructions. They act like it’s a pretty significant thing and I’m wondering, do You care if Sabbath is Saturday or Sunday?

What does the word Sabbath mean?

Sabbath = In the Bible, the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, a day of rest and worship, commemorating God’s rest after creating the universe; it’s a command to cease from labor and focus on God and spiritual matters

How does the dictionary define sabbath?

Sabbath = a day of religious observance and abstinence from work, kept by Jewish people from Friday evening to Saturday evening and by most Christians on Sunday

How have I told you to honor the Sabbath?

What do you mean?

How have I told YOU to honor the Sabbath?

In Genesis 2, You rested on the seventh day. In the 10 commandments in Exodus and Deuteronomy, You command the observance of the Sabbath stating that it’s a day of rest and worship to the Lord. In Exodus 31, it says that the Sabbath is a sign between God and the Israelites reminding them of their covenant relationship. We’re told to rest, not work, cook, travel, or carry burdens on the Sabbath.

Jesus observed the Sabbath but He taught us that the Sabbath was made for us, as a gift to us, not as a rule just to be a rule. He healed on the Sabbath letting us know that it was permissible to do good on the Sabbath.

What do you personally think about the Sabbath?

I think that You created the Sabbath as a gift to us. In my life, it’s easy to be busy seven days a week and to be so busy doing that we never take the time to sit down as a family, spend time talking and reflecting on who You are and what You are doing in our lives. We have had YEARS where we never took a day to intentionally rest and we missed out on some precious time with each other and with our kids as a result.

I feel like in my life, Sabbath has been like a wrapped gift that sits on my shelf unopened. It’s probably the best gift I’ve ever received, but if I don’t unwrap it, I’ll never know. I could die with that gift still sitting in the pretty little box on the shelf and never have the pleasure of enjoying it.

If you truly believe it is a gift I’ve given you, is it a sin to leave it wrapped and sitting on the shelf?

I think of the word “sin” so much differently than I used to. Since I read that sin means “missing the mark” or “missing the mark of God’s best for my life,” I don’t think of it as a punishable offense. I kind of see it like what I say about my life before You healed me… before I came into agreement with You for my healing and wholeness in my mental health. When I lived with bipolar symptoms, I was entertaining many lies of the enemy. I don’t believe that my salvation was affected. I believe that I was still saved, but I was MISERABLE. Saved, but starving.

I think of Sabbath in the same way. If I choose to run myself ragged and never take a day of rest, I’m cheating myself out of a beautiful gift You’ve offered.

So do you think it matters if Sabbath is on Saturday or Sunday?

I don’t know. If it is a sign of Your promise to the world, it seems like it would make most sense that we honor it on the same day. Like the WORLD knows that Chick-fil-a and Hobby Lobby are Christian businesses because they are closed down on Sundays. They probably take a big hit financially not opening their doors on Sundays, but that is a sign to the world that they are honoring You with that day.

You need to form a conviction about Sabbath and then live out that conviction.

So I decide what is right or wrong?

What did I say to you and then to you through your client’s friend?

“What I ask of YOU is simple when you simply obey.”

Listen and obey. Give your neighbor the freedom to listen and obey.

LOVE,

Daddy
