Loose Connection
It’s amazing when you take a half of a second to breathe and check your spirit before responding, what you will discover about spiritual principles!
I am sitting on my old riding mower with a pile of tasks before me and a limited amount of time to accomplish them before my daughter‘s grad party on Saturday.
Before I started power washing things and getting the grass all wet as a consequence, I was going to mow the lawn.
I climbed up under the shed roof, where we keep the riding mower, sat down and turned the key… Nothing. Not even a hint that the mower knew that I was turning the key.
The initial thought that jolted into my mind was, “Oh no, I don’t have time to push-mow this lawn.” We live on 3/4 of an acre and it takes quite a bit of time to push mow the whole yard. I was hoping to get on this riding mower and knock it out in 45 minutes.
In my old reactive nature, I would have probably said out loud, “Stupid mower! Of all the times you choose not to work…..you’re so unreliable! You are old, maybe it’s time to replace you.”
Responding to life circumstances in our old reactive nature is stressful! It’s hard on your mind and body and inevitably we become short tempered and snap at our families.
Praise God we don’t have to react to those things anymore!
Did you know that even THINGS respond to the words you say?!
If I speak TO and OF my mower like it’s a broken down old piece of crap that doesn’t work when I want it to, I believe it will obey.
There’s an interesting book called “Quantum Faith” by Annette Capps that takes the concept of quantum physics and applies it to faith. As I learn more about it, my spirit perks up and though I don’t fully grasp the concepts, I sense there is deep revelation in her words.
If you’re interested, I’d encourage you to get the book or even listen to a good YouTube video about it. I’ve listened to this one a couple times:
Anyways, sitting on this mower and not even a hint that it wants to start, I sat back prayerfully and had the thought, “Loose connection.”
I lifted up the seat and sure enough, the little nut on the red post was wiggly. I hand tightened the nut, sat back down and the mower started right up.
Perhaps if things aren’t working out right in your life and it seems there’s something REALLY wrong….there’s simply a loose connection. Most often, this loose connection is in our interaction with God.
He doesn’t want to simply be your Sunday morning pew pal or your fire fighter when your life becomes a dumpster fire…..He will be those things, but He’s looking for a firm connection to the Source….one that won’t shake loose when the ground is bumpy.
LORD,
Reveal to me any areas of my life that have a loose connection with You. Areas where maybe I rely on my own natural ability and thoughts rather than Yours to see me through.
Help me to recognize You in EVERY area of my life so that I can learn to trust (to lean on) You in everything.
You are my life, my LOVE and my Source. May I be ever mindful of You.
In Jesus name I pray,
AMEN
